Can I put on a
display at any time of the year?
Yes. But please respect your neighbours. Any time after 10pm might be anti-social.
Do I need a licence?
No. At present anyone can put on a fireworks display without any formal training or
licence.
Do I need permission?
No. Provided your display is on private property, which you have permission to use.
Who should I notify?
We always advise that you inform the Police, Fire Brigade, your neighbours and nearby
owners of pets and farm animals of the date, place and time of the display. If you're near
an airport or the sea, you should also inform the CAA and/or the Coastguard.
Where can I hold a display?
Any area clear of buildings, vehicles and trees is suitable where you have at least 25
metres (81ft) between spectators and fireworks, and a fall-out zone at the rear of the
firing site where rocket sticks and debris can fall harmlessly. Some of our bigger
fireworks require 50 metres (162ft).
Is it safe?
All our DIY fireworks conform to the specifications of the British Standard BS 7114, which
requires fireworks to be quality tested prior to sale, to have adequate delay fuses prior
to ignition, and to have labels with clear descriptions, warnings and instructions.
What if it rains?
Provided you have kept your fireworks dry, by placing them in plastic bags when you set
them up, this shouldn't be a problem. However, windy conditions can make firing a display
hazardous and we would advise not to go ahead if it is any more than breezy.
Do I need insurance?
Most household policies include at least £1 million of public liability insurance and our
own products and displays are covered by £5 million. However, if you are organising a
public display you will need an additional liability insurance.
What about transport of fireworks?
You can carry up to 50kg of fireworks in your car or van without any restrictions
What will a display cost?
Our DIY selections start from under £40 and go up to more than £1,000.
How should I prepare?
We supply full instructions, firing order and equipment requirements with all our DIY
packs. We recommend you order and open your pack in good time, check its contents and plan
your display prior to firing. On the day, set out the display, preferably in daylight.
